Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Websites

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) is responsible for approximately 60 state laws and more than 70 regulations related to promoting Virginia agriculture, consumer protection, and environmental stewardship. Through the VITA contract with AISN, VDACS has migrated all of its websites and web-facing applications, along with operations and maintenance functions, to the AISN hosting platform.

Challenge

Three VDACS portals required full conversions from PERL (Linux) to .NET and two portals required significant enhancements, specifically the Online Application and Registration System (OARS), which annually processes thousands of citizen/business applications and registrations online through the agency web portal.

Solution

AISN successfully converted from PERL to .NET the portals used for Online Animal Record Reporting, Dangerous Dog Registry, and the Virginia Farm Link Program, while also applying significant .NET feature enhancements to The Legal Service Plan Seller Registration portal.

OARS, on the other hand, was a legacy application, which required a significant upgrade. AISN developers ensured that missing functionality was rebuilt, and very old code was jettisoned and replaced with code for more robust, new functionality.
